When You’re Tired, Start Here
When You’re Tired, Start Here
There’s a difference between being unmotivated and being exhausted.
And I think a lot of moms are walking around believing they need more discipline… when what they actually need is support, rest, nourishment, and space to breathe again.
Because when your energy is depleted, everything feels harder.
The workouts feel harder.
Making healthy meals feels harder.
Being patient feels harder.
Showing up for yourself feels harder.
Even the smallest tasks can start to feel overwhelming when you’ve been running on empty for too long.
And yet, so many women respond to exhaustion by trying to push harder.
More discipline.
More pressure.
More expectations.
More guilt.
But sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is stop asking:
“How do I force myself to do more?”
…and start asking:
“What does my body actually need right now?”
Burnout Doesn’t Always Look Dramatic
Sometimes burnout looks obvious.
Sometimes it looks like complete exhaustion, emotional overwhelm, or feeling like you’re constantly on the edge.
But other times, it looks much quieter.
It looks like:
Feeling tired no matter how much sleep you get
Snapping more easily
Losing motivation for things you normally enjoy
Living off caffeine and convenience foods
Feeling mentally foggy
Constantly saying, “I’ll start again next week”
Never feeling fully rested
For many moms, this becomes so normal that they stop recognizing how depleted they actually are.
They adapt to survival mode.
But just because you can function while exhausted doesn’t mean it’s healthy to stay there.
Your Body Is Always Communicating With You
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that our bodies are constantly giving us information.
Low energy.
Brain fog.
Mood swings.
Cravings.
Poor sleep.
Feeling run down.
These aren’t signs that you’re failing.
They’re signals.
Your body may be asking for:
More hydration
More nourishment
More movement
Better sleep
Less stress
More recovery
More consistency with the basics
And honestly? The basics matter more than people think.
We tend to search for complicated solutions while overlooking the simple habits that impact how we feel every single day.
Start With the Foundations
When your energy feels low, don’t immediately jump into an extreme reset.
Start smaller.
Ask yourself:
“What’s one thing I can do today to support my body?”
Maybe that looks like:
Drinking more water
Eating protein at breakfast
Going to bed 30 minutes earlier
Taking a walk outside
Stretching for 10 minutes
Spending less time on your phone at night
Taking a real lunch break instead of eating while multitasking
Small habits can create huge shifts in how you feel.
Not overnight.
But consistently over time.
Movement Can Create Energy
This may sound backward, especially when you’re exhausted, but gentle movement often helps create more energy.
Not punishment workouts.
Not “all or nothing” workouts.
Just movement.
A walk outside.
Stretching.
A quick workout at home.
Dancing in the kitchen with your kids.
Moving your body because it feels good—not because you’re trying to “earn” food or punish yourself.
Movement increases circulation, improves mood, supports stress management, and often helps break the cycle of feeling stuck.
The key is learning to work with your body instead of constantly against it.
You Don’t Need to Earn Rest
This is something many moms struggle with.
Rest feels “unproductive.”
Rest feels lazy.
Rest feels undeserved.
So instead of resting, they keep pushing until their bodies force them to stop.
But rest isn’t something you earn after burnout.
Rest is part of wellness.
You are allowed to slow down.
You are allowed to recover.
You are allowed to take care of yourself too.
And sometimes the most productive thing you can do is create space to recharge.
Support Your Energy Instead of Draining It
As you move through this season, pay attention to what gives you energy and what constantly drains it.
Energy-drainers might include:
Overcommitting
Poor sleep
Constant stress
Negative self-talk
Skipping meals
Spending too much time scrolling
Trying to do everything perfectly
Energy-supporters might include:
Daily walks
Protein-rich meals
Hydration
Time outside
Laughter
Earlier bedtimes
Boundaries
Slowing down enough to breathe
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight.
You just need to begin paying attention.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been feeling exhausted lately, this is your reminder that you are not failing.
You may simply need support.
You may need recovery.
You may need to return to the basics that help you feel your best.
Start small.
Support your body.
Protect your energy.
Choose habits that help you feel nourished instead of depleted.
Because wellness isn’t just about productivity.
It’s also about learning how to care for yourself in a sustainable way.
Reflection Question
What is one small thing you can do this week that would help you feel more supported, rested, or energized?
