Perfection Is the Enemy of Progress
Perfection Is the Enemy of Progress
(And Why Your Worst Day Still Has Something to Teach You)
I spent a long time chasing perfect. Perfect days. Perfect meals. Perfect workouts. Perfect consistency. And when I inevitably fell short — which is what humans do — I'd spiral. Feel behind. Start over Monday. Or worse, stop altogether.
Sound familiar?
Here's what I've learned after 20 years of coaching women through health transformations: perfection doesn't just stall progress. It isolates you. It tells you that you're only worth celebrating when everything goes exactly right. And when it doesn't — which is most of life — it leaves you with nothing but disappointment and a fresh reason to quit.
That pattern isn't a character flaw. It's a system problem. And I want to offer you a better system.
The Trap Perfection Sets
Perfectionism sells itself as high standards. But what it actually does is shrink your world.
When perfect is the only acceptable outcome, any deviation feels like failure. You skip the workout because you can only do 20 minutes instead of an hour. You "blow" your nutrition at dinner and decide the whole day — or week — is a wash. You stop tracking because you don't want to see the evidence of where you fell short.
And slowly, without meaning to, you stop showing up altogether. Not because you're lazy or uncommitted. But because the bar you set doesn't leave any room for you to be human.
Perfection doesn't allow space for you to learn, grow, or be honest with yourself about where you actually are.
Progress, on the other hand, is built on data. Real data. The kind that includes good days and hard days and everything in between. And when you start treating your choices as information instead of a report card, something shifts.
How I Found a Different Way
Before I built anything, I built a Google Doc.
I was in my own season of trying to get back to myself — post-athlete, mom, trainer who knew all the things and still struggled to apply them consistently to her own life. So I started tracking. Not to be perfect. Just to see.
What I found changed me.
When I looked at the data honestly, the majority of my choices were aligned with where I wanted to be. I was doing more right than I thought. But I'd been so focused on what I missed that I couldn't see it. Tracking put a spotlight on the good I was already doing — and minimized the weight I gave to where I fell short.
That insight wasn't just motivating. It was clarifying. It showed me that intentionality — not perfection — was the real driver of progress.
That Google Doc eventually became something I shared with clients. And the results were the same. People weren't failing. They just didn't have a way to see how much they were actually winning.
That's when I knew it needed to be more than a doc.
With Sigla: Built from the Inside Out
The app I built is called With Sigla. And the name matters to me more than I can fully express.
Sigla is a word in Filipino meaning vitality — the state of being strong, active, and energetic. The power to endure and continue to grow. I named it in honor of my father, who passed away. It carries his memory and my deepest desire for every woman I work with: to live a life full of vitality.
With Sigla. With vitality. That's the whole thing, right there.
I don't want women to just be thinner or smaller. I want them to be more alive.
The app is a metabolic health coaching tool designed to do what that original Google Doc did for me — give you an honest, compassionate, data-driven picture of how you're showing up for yourself. Daily.
What Makes It Different: Evaluation, Not Judgment
The scoring system inside With Sigla is built around a 100-point daily framework. The goal isn't to hit 100. The goal is 80%.
Why 80? Because it reflects real life. It's the threshold where your choices are consistently moving the needle — without requiring everything to be perfect to matter.
Every choice you make throughout the day has value. Every point counts. And the score you see at the end of the day isn't a judgment about who you are. It's an evaluation of where you showed up, and an invitation to look at why.
A 60-point day isn't a failure. It's data. It might tell you that sleep was off, stress was high, or that you need more support in a particular area. The charts and pattern recognition built into the app help you see those trends over time — so you stop guessing and start understanding.
Even your worst day has something to teach you, if you're willing to look at it without shame.
That's the coaching insight I bring to every client, now built directly into the experience. You're not just logging habits. You're building self-awareness. And self-awareness is where every real, lasting change begins.
What Progress Actually Looks Like
Progress is not a straight line. I know you know this. But it's one thing to know it and another to have a tool that actually reflects it.
With Sigla is designed for women who are done starting over. Who are tired of the all-or-nothing cycle. Who want to feel strong and energetic and alive — not just look a certain way. It's for the woman who is quietly unsatisfied with "fine" and ready to understand herself well enough to change.
It is not about being perfect. It never was. It's about showing up with intention, seeing what's true, and using that truth to move forward.
One day at a time. One point at a time.
