The 5 Habits I Wish Every Mom Focused On
Every day it seems like there's a new wellness trend.
Drink this.
Don't eat that.
Take this supplement.
Try this morning routine.
Cut out carbs.
Count your macros.
Cold plunge.
Red light therapy.
Intermittent fasting.
It's enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed.
As a personal trainer and health coach, I get asked all the time,
"What's the one thing I should be doing?"
The truth is...
There isn't one magic habit.
But there are a handful of simple things that consistently make the biggest impact.
And the best part?
None of them are expensive.
None of them require perfection.
And all of them fit into real life.
These are the five habits I come back to again and again—with my clients and in my own life.
1. Build Your Meals Around Protein
If I could help every mom make just one nutrition change, this would be it.
Protein helps keep you full, supports your muscles, balances your energy, and makes it easier to avoid that afternoon crash that sends you searching for snacks.
Instead of asking, "What should I eat?"
Start asking,
"Where's my protein?"
Maybe that's eggs at breakfast.
Greek yogurt as a snack.
Chicken on your salad.
Cottage cheese with fruit.
It doesn't have to be fancy.
When you start with protein, the rest of your meal tends to fall into place naturally.
2. Move Your Body Every Day
Notice I didn't say...
"Work out every day."
Because sometimes life doesn't leave room for a workout.
But almost every day has room for movement.
Take a walk after dinner.
Stretch while your kids play.
Dance in the kitchen.
Park a little farther away.
Movement doesn't have to be intense to be effective.
It just has to happen consistently.
Those little moments add up more than you think.
3. Drink More Water Than You Think You Need
I love my morning cappuccino.
I'm never going to tell you to give up your coffee.
But I am going to encourage you to drink some water, too.
So many of us start the day dehydrated without even realizing it.
One of the simplest habits you can build is drinking a big glass of water before—or alongside—your first cup of coffee.
It takes less than a minute, but it can make a big difference in your energy, digestion, and even your hunger throughout the day.
Simple really can be powerful.
4. Strength Train a Few Times Each Week
As a trainer, I may be a little biased...
But if there's one type of exercise I hope every woman includes in her week, it's strength training.
Not because I want you to look a certain way.
Because I want you to feel strong.
I want you to be able to carry your kids, lift heavy groceries, hike with your family, and feel confident in your body for years to come.
Strength training isn't about becoming smaller.
It's about becoming stronger.
And that strength carries over into every part of your life.
5. Protect Your Sleep
This one is often the hardest.
I know what it's like to finally have a quiet house and want a little time to yourself.
Sometimes staying up late feels like the only "me time" you get.
But sleep affects everything.
Your energy.
Your mood.
Your cravings.
Your workouts.
Your patience.
You don't have to go to bed two hours earlier.
Even getting to bed 20 or 30 minutes sooner can make tomorrow feel completely different.
Your future self will thank you.
Why I Keep Coming Back to These Habits
I love learning about health.
I think it's fascinating.
But I've also learned that more information doesn't always lead to better results.
Simple, repeatable habits do.
These five habits aren't exciting.
They probably won't go viral on social media.
But they've stood the test of time because they work.
Not for a week.
Not for a challenge.
For life.
Final Thoughts
If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the conflicting wellness advice, let me make it simple.
You don't need another complicated plan.
You don't need to chase every new trend.
You don't need to do everything at once.
Just choose one habit.
Practice it until it feels natural.
Then build from there.
Because the healthiest women I know aren't the ones doing the most.
They're the ones doing the basics consistently.
And that's something every one of us can work toward.
Reflection Questions
Take a moment to think about your own routine.
Which of these five habits feels strongest right now?
Which one could use a little more attention?
What's one small change you can make this week to support your health?
Remember, lasting wellness isn't built in one perfect day. It's built through the small choices you make over and over again.
